As many of you may know, in my other – non-Wedding Skulls life – I work as a braille transcriber and copywriter. I write business copy – websites and blogs and newsletters and catelogue copy and ebooks. It’s a great job – I’m always learning new and interesting things, and I get to work with cool indie small businesses and non profits.

Over on my copywriting blog I post articles I’ve written that might interest the businesses and non profits I work for. Today I’ve posted 5 Tips for Etsy Business Success. I know several Etsy sellers  read this blog, so I’m posting here in case you might be interested in my Etsy observations. In upcoming weeks, I’ll be posting more Etsy advice columns and my new Etsy Copywriting Package.

I’ve been researching Etsy like mad over the last few months, partly because of all the sellers I feature on Wedding Skulls, partly because I’m thinking of introducing a line of Wedding Skulls products at a later date (don’t get too excited. It won’t be till the end of this year, at least!) and partly because I’m drawing up an Etsy Copywriting Package especially for beginning or struggling Etsy sellers, and I want to get everything just right before I launch that later this month.

I’ve done copywriting for Etsy sellers before, but this Etsy package will include a special price (cheaper than my usual copywriting prices) and take into account the specific restrictions/nature of Etsy. Instead of being SEO optimized, copy will be Etsy-optimized, telling your buyers EXACLTY what they want to know.

It will include Shop announcements, policy pages, profile, product descriptions, and some special extra features which I won’t be revealing just yet. All pieces of the package are interchangeable, so if you only want product descriptions, for instance, I can do those and the price comes down – but you still get the extras.

I’m really excited about this – it represents a step forward in my copywriting career towards working the the kinds of businesses I love supporting. I’ll be updating Wedding Skulls as soon as I’ve finalized the Package, but in the meantime, if you want to be first in line or are curious about what copywriting could do for your business, contact me at steff@small-business-copywriter.com

That’s all the business talk over for today, I promise. Come back tomorrow for a really special post! Steff

Tart Deco veil giveaway

Since we’re all big fans of free giveaways here at Wedding Skulls, I figured you’d all like to here about Tart Deco’s excellent veil giveaway competition going on RIGHT NOW.

Here’s the details from Steph’s blog post:

I am getting ready to finish up my wedding veil next week. I am adding a cathedral length veil I found at a thrift store to a vintage 50s bandeau hat with bow. I am making the veil detachable and adding a short fluff of red tulle that matches my crinoline, as well as some vintage red rhinestone jewelry. I will be making a DIY tutorial on this that I will be posting once it is done.

Needless to say, I am feeling inspired. I love reading other blogs to find the ways that other non-traditional brides are finding their inspiration. So to celebrate finishing one more task, my birthday coming up, and my new Movie Musical accessory line, I am giving away a custom petit veil to one lucky non-traditional bride!

How To Enter: I’d like to learn more about you and your wedding. Leave a post by Wednesday, March 18th before midnight (central time) telling me about a non-traditional aspect of your wedding and what inspired you to do it. Pictures and links are always welcome Tart Deco veil giveaway I will pick the entry I think is the most unique or just stands out to me and post the winner on Thursday.

What You Win: A custom petit wedding veil (similar in size to the one in the picture) based on your choice of colors and/or wedding theme. The length of veil can be shoulder length or shorter. I will contact the winner to discuss options once they have confirmed.

So any of you brides still lusting after headwear, I suggest you scamper over there and enter. Good luck!

I am famous!

Wedding Skulls did a short interview with Shannon over at Creepy Queen, which is a wonderful subculture magazine that regularly feature DIYers and craft businesses. Here’s a quick exercpt to whet your appetite:

“I think more and more people strive to push the envelope of what’s ‘acceptable’ in society nowadays, and dark alternative weddings will get more popular as a result. The longer subcultures hang around – like goth, or punk ,for example – the more ‘acceptable’ they become. Nowadays, most people have some notion of what a goth or a punk IS, whereas Emo is still a mystery (my parents have no idea what an emo is).”

The article is Wedding Skulls – Planning an Alternative Wedding.  We talk a lot about why I created Wedding Skulls and what I see for alternative weddings in the future. It was really fun to do.

Check it out! And while you’re there, have a look at some of their other articles and their forum. There’s some good discussion going on about running subculture businesses, and a chance to pick up some bargains and freebies. I lurk around there a bit, too :) It’s great to see new subculture magazines popping up over the web.

DIY Weddings is hosting a craft tutorial contest. Are you (or did you) make something yourself for your wedding? Tell them about it, show them how you did it, and you could win much kudos and a $100, $75, $50 or $25 Amazon gift certificate, a bridesmaid cosmetic bag and a ‘What’s a Dame to Do’ board game.

Rules say you have to reside in the US to enter (I assume because of shipping), so you won’t be competing against this New Zealand resident. Entries must include both instructions and photographs, and must reach the DIY weddings inbox by midnight, EST, March 31st. You’ve got a little under a month left.

Sounds like fun. What are you waiting for? Hop to it!
